Hand designed and made cushion pile and lino cut bird

About Sylvia&Margot

Artisanal home textiles and papers from hand illustrated and hand made linocut blocks. Made to order and colour matched to your favourite Farrow&Ball colour.

Rebecca created and single handedly runs Sylvia&Margot, in the seaside town of Folkestone, Kent (with sideline support from her partner Ian and toddler son Ralph!). It was when her dad researched their family tree and discovered ancestors Sylvia and Margaret Richardson and their story, that she was inspired to pursue her own pattern making under the name Sylvia&Margot. From designing and carving patterns, hand making lampshades, to customer service, packing and posting orders - it's a truly independent small business. She also employs the services of a wonderful local professional cushion maker and fabrics are printed locally in Kent.

Rebecca prides herself on offering a responsive and personalised service. All designs can be printed to match your choice of Farrow&Ball, Little Greene or other premium paint range colour. She's often asked to advise on pattern and colour choices to fit interior schemes, and can design patterns to commission.

The Design Process

Translating the beautiful character that the traditional craft of block printing gives, into bright long lasting prints suitable for modern living.

Working in the traditional way with only paper, pencil and scissors, plus a desire to achieve a particular atmosphere or explore the form and textures of a particular flower or plant, Rebecca’s repeat patterns develop spontaneously across the paper. Foliage and flowers grow and intertwine organically as she draws, resulting in intricate and immersive imaginary landscapes. These drawings are then transferred by pencil onto the block ready for her to carve.

Multiple prints, made by hand, of the illustrated and carved lino blocks are then scanned to the digital screen, then printed to fabric using eco-friendly water based pigment inks and dye sublimation. This process maintains the beautiful inconsistencies and character that come from the traditional craft of block printing, whilst providing bright long lasting prints suitable for modern living. It also enables customer’s the option to colour match patterns to premium paint ranges (such as Farrow&Ball).

Terms and Conditions

I hope you are delighted with your order - all items are handmade with great care, inspected before posting and packaged in such a way to avoid damage in transit.

All products are made to order or bespoke so can not be refunded or exchanged unless faulty.

Orders can not be cancelled if manufacturing has already commenced. So please notify me immediately if you would like to cancel your order.

In the case of colour matching to premium paint ranges, if a precise match is important to you, please order a fabric swatch to be sure of your choices before placing an order (please email me for further information). Colour matching to paint ranges is approximate and as accurate as possible, but the colour of the base cloth/paper and lighting conditions it is viewed under can impact the final outcome. Colour matching is achieved by eye under various lighting conditions and with some digital assistance, so it is not an exact science.

Please inspect your items as soon as they are received and before using. If in the unlikely event there is a fault with your order upon receipt, please contact me within 24 hours to enquire about the course forward and a possible exchange. Faulty items may need to be sent back to the printer or maker to be inspected, before an exchange can be arranged if a fault is found.

Shipping charges on returned faulty orders are at the customer's expense and I am not responsible for goods lost or damaged in transit. Postage will be refunded if goods are found to be faulty or an error has been made on my part.
