6 ideas for decorating a garden fence ahead of BBQ season

Want your fence to look its best for BBQ season? We hear you – read our how-to guide and discover tons of creative decorating ideas.

6 ways to decorate your garden fence

1. Add cosy lighting

Whether it’s fairy lights strung up on your fence or lanterns around the border, some lighting will help create a really cosy atmosphere and light up those darker corners. And, if they’re solar lights, you won’t even need to worry about pesky wiring which is *always* a bonus.

2. Play with paint

If you’re wondering what paint colour will make your fence look bigger, the answer is… white (no prizes for guessing that!). Painting your fence white will help light bounce off it and make everything feel bigger and breezier. Be warned though, white will show up stains and damage more easily so you may want to go for a darker colour like brown or grey that’s easier to look after.

3. Maximise space

There are so many things you can hang on fences to help save a bit of space. Think wall planters, bird baths and even bee hotels. Or, if you want something really creative, go for this pub bird feeder crafted by small brand, Lindleywood. Can we get a life-sized version in our garden please?

4. Draw the eye down

Don’t forget about the base of your fence. There are tons of ways you can add interest here with decorations. You can go for colourful welly planters, decorative stakes or even bigger pieces of furniture like a bench or a mirror depending on how much space you have to play with.

5. Add signage or wall art

An easy way to add bags of personality to your garden? With a piece of wall art or a personalised sign. You could even add in a blue plaque to celebrate your fave person, or even yourself – there’s no judgement here.

6. Get gardening

With spring in full swing, it’s a brilliant time to do a bit of gardening and neaten up those areas around your fence. Add in some climbing plants or just do a spot of weeding to make the most of what you already have. Or you could plant some edible flowers to make dinner at yours even boujier. Hello, fancy salads and cocktails.
