Wherever we are in the world, a shining star will bring us together.
We are a coming together of 2 family businesses – from Derbyshire UK, and Maharashtra, India. For over 25 years we have worked together producing paper stars for stately homes, boutique window displays, major Christmas events, film and television sets, and for the home and private events and locations.
Our motto is ‘Share the Light’ and we love to see the joy and warmth stars create, and how they can bring people together. Our stars are recognised as the finest and have been fairly traded since 1996. They have cast their light over countless family Christmases, shone down on weddings and celebrations. And the simple act of hanging a star in your home will share its light with neighbours and passers-by.
Our stars draw a range of inspiration from the rich colours of Indian textiles to the cool simplicity of Scandi neutrals., and have been featured by TV’s ‘Grand Designs’ and Jamie Oliver. Displayed as lampshades or lanterns they will create a cosy atmosphere in any indoor space and transform a sheltered outdoor spot - hang them in the window to create a captivating display to be enjoyed from near and far.
Runners-Up in the 2020 Modern Retail Community Award, the way we trade is informed by friendship & collaboration.
Our British-Indian partnership spans 2 generations & we spend our time researching materials, refining technique & creating beautiful designs exclusive to our partnership. We never mass produce, instead focusing on small batch production, limited runs, and high quality seasonal collections.
Each star is hand screen-printed using a wooden printing frame & vegetable-based dyes, a traditional process creating unrivalled depth and richness of tone. Colour balancing is performed by eye, & after years of experimentation with multilayering & overprinting, our partnership has refined the screen-printing process to create increasingly complex designs which can’t be reproduced by machine. Each lantern is hand punched with intricate pin holes to release the light in a myriad of decorative effects, & tissue inserts positioned by hand create an atmospheric stained glass glow.
Each part of the making process is performed by hand & will always begin in the time-honoured way - a hand-drawn sketch.
