Botanically Inspired Stained Glass
I am a student at the University of York studying Stained Glass Conservation. I am not eligible for a Government loan so any profits from my sales will go towards the costs of going to University.
My wildflowers & grasses giveaway the happiness I feel when connected to nature, they are my appreciation of the honest beauty of the natural world.
The concept behind my work is "we are so genetically programmed to connect with nature that we feel satisfaction when we strip seeds from a stalk of grass".
I've chosen plants which create strong joyful images for me, swathes of golden barley at harvest time, formal borders of fragrant lavender crowded with bees, wildflower meadows rich in red clover, all symbolising the unique beauty of the English Countryside.
I work from botanical samples and photographs collected whilst out walking my dog in the Yorkshire countryside. I find simple natural objects both inspirational and a mindful contrast to the busy world around me.
Connected to nature
I have a unique background, I've taught Horticulture for 15 years and have degrees in Environmental Science and Civil Engineering, these seem to naturally unite through my fascination for presenting glass to light through different botanical forms, patterns and structures.
I love to play with the limitations of my materials and techniques, each piece of my work is individual, rich in its handmade character. Expect personalisation of parcels with hand drawn images.
A sustainable approach to my work is reflected in my holistic choices of materials, resources and working methods, I'm mindful in my packaging choices and plastic free.
