Not quite of this world and very happy about that.
I paint large contemporary landscapes and seascapes in oil on canvas. My painting style is a fusion of Expressionist, Impressionist, Semi-abstract, Art Nouveau and something I term ‘memory impressionism’. This is where I go walking somewhere rural, look at and absorb the things I see and experience, and then come home and try to capture an essence of the place from memory. My paintings are, for me, echoes of beautiful places and it always fascinates me what emerges on to a canvas from a simple memory. All of them have a story attached and are named once I have completed the painting and can see more clearly what the story is! I completed a fine art degree in Brighton in 1983 and I have painted since I was three. I love what I do and consider myself very fortunate to have found a way to ‘work’ for a living that is actually really playing.
Painting always makes me happy along with cake, bunnies, driving erratically, BBC 6 music and totally irreverent comedy.
I use an excellent quality cotton canvas for my oil paintings which is acid free and durable. It is called '3D' canvas or 'deep edge' canvas meaning it is wide at the edges and does not need to be framed as has a neat modern look. I leave the edges white most of the time but can paint them if requested. All art is sold ready to hang and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity which states it details, is signed by me and will assist in any future resale. I don't varnish my paintings I prefer a semi matte look but this can be done if you wish. Oil paint is very enduring and colours will not fade. At the back of the canvas you will see wedges in each corner that can be lightly tapped with a hammer should temperature changes in your house or office make the canvas looser than it should be.
